Mr. Chen Jian's portfolio is consisted of the Department of Asian Affairs, Department of Foreign Economic Cooperation, the China International Contractors Association, the Association of International Engineering Consultants, and China International Economic Cooperation Society. Mr. Chen Jian Met Suma Chakrabarti, Permanent Secretary of UK Department for International Development

Mr. Chen Jian, Assistant Minister of Commerce, met Suma Chakrabarti, Permanent Secretary of UK Department for International Development, on Sept 19. Wang Shichun, Director of MOFCOM Department of Foreign Aid, Liu Yingjun, MOFCOM Department of Foreign Economic Cooperation and Liu Dianxun，MOFCOM Department of Foreign Affairs, attended the meeting.

During the talks, Mr. Chen Jian elaborated the policies and considerations of China to provide foreign economic and technical aid, briefed basic situation and key works of aid to Africa and expressed opinions on relations between foreign aid and favorable policies and launching of multi-lateral cooperation. Suma thanked Mr. Chen Jian for his detailed introduction, agreed with his opinions and put forward suggestions concerning bilateral cooperation between China and UK in area of foreign aid.

Finally, Mr. Chen Jian said that China was willing to launch cooperation with UK in foreign aid and proposed that the two sides should keep communication at the working level.
