Mr. Chen Jian's portfolio is consisted of the Department of Asian Affairs, Department of Foreign Economic Cooperation, the China International Contractors Association, the Association of International Engineering Consultants, and China International Economic Cooperation Society. He also assists Vice Minister of Commerce Ma Xiuhong in her responsibilities with respect to the Investment Promotion Agency.

Mr. Chen Jian Met and Signed Agreements with Allan Thomas, Australian Ambassador to China

On Oct. 16, Assistant Minister of Commerce Mr. Chen Jian signed 3 MOUs with Allan Thomas, Australian Ambassador to China, on projects of China-Australia Development Cooperation concerning environment and water resources, prevention of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases and cooperation partners to promote small and medium-seized enterprises. Australia would provide about US$40 million in aid to the above-said projects within the coming 5 years.

Project of China-Australia environment and water resources cooperation: to focus on the enhancement of sustainable utilization of resources and environmental protection in major areas during the Eleventh Five-year Planning.

Project of China-Australia HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases cooperation: to help China to narrow the difference with UN's millennium development goal in sanitation, provide successful experiences of Australia in the reform of sanitation system and enhance the cooperation between relative departments in the two countries in prevention of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases. Australia will appropriate funds of AUD25 million in the area, equaling to US$18.75 million.

Project of cooperation partners to promote small and medium-seized enterprises: to maintain supporting development of small and medium-seized enterprises in Sichuan Province and push forward the drafting of relative supporting policies. In 2006, Australia will invest AUD3.4 million in the Project, equaling to about US$2.55 million.
