| 13th CIFIT Press Conference Held in Beijing |

MOFCOM and the CIFIT Organizing Committee held a press conference for 13th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Beijing in the morning of July 2, and gave a briefing to media about the 13th CIFIT to be held in Xiamen on September 8. Chen Jian, Deputy Minister of Commerce and Executive Deputy Director of the Organizing Committee , Ye Shuangyu, Vice Governor of Fujian Province and Deputy Director and concurrently Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee, and Liu Cigui, Mayor of Xiamen and Deputy Director of the Organizing Committee, were present at the conference.
In his briefing, Chen Jian said that CIFIT is China’s large-scale international event aiming at promotion of two-way investment, and is an important window of China's opening up. And compared with the previous sessions, the 13th CIFIT will highlight the function of platform for international investment promotion and emphasize more on international economic and trade exchanges and cooperation. It will continue to follow closely the two major themes of "Bringing in" and "Going out" and focus on the challenges and opportunities brought by the financial crisis, and create a platform for the exchanges and cooperation between domestic and overseas businessmen amid the economic recovery, so as to enhance people’s confidence on the prospect of world’s economic recovery.
Chen Jian expressed that, although China’s absorbing foreign direct investment is in face of the unprecedented difficulties and challenges, overseas business maintain a steady growth. In the first quarter of this year, there were 445 Chinese-invested enterprises established abroad, up 6.8% year-on-year, the overseas direct investment (non-financial sectors) by Chinese investors was US$3.7 billion, and a number of major projects are under negotiation. From January to May, the turnover of China's foreign contracted projects was US$24.78 billion, up 48.2% year-on-year; the value of new contracts was US$53.46 billion, up 43.7% year-on-year. The Chinese government will also continue to encourage and support competent Chinese enterprises to invest and conduct business overseas.
Ye Shuangyu briefed the new situations and features, and progress of the preparatory work of the 13th CIFIT. He pointed out that, at present, every preparatory work of the 13th CIFIT has proceeded smoothly, and has several major features compared with the previous sessions: First, there will be a wider variety of activities. Focusing on the new trends of world industrial restructuring and the two major themes of "Bringing in" and "Going out", business invitation shall be vigorously promoted, especially in the key industries of real-estate industry, cultural and creative industries, tourism, agriculture, and development areas. Second, international characteristic is a highlight. It is expected to have participants from 80 countries and regions, and up to now, more than 250 organizations from over 60 countries and regions have submitted application. Third, there will be a distinctive Taiwan characteristic on the fair. "Taiwan Investment Promotion Exhibition Area”, “Taiwan Commodity Exhibition Area” and “Exhibition Area for Special Products” will be set up on the 13th CIFIT, and matchmaking symposiums on investment in Taiwan will be held. Fourth, investment promotion will be strengthened. 11 matchmaking symposiums shall be held on the 13th CIFIT to further strengthen business matchmaking.
Liu Cigui, Mayor of Xiamen, briefed the comprehensive support works for the 13th CIFIT, and extended, on behalf of the hosting city, a warm welcome to the media and businessmen at home and abroad to meet at the beautiful Egret Island of Xiamen, to explore business opportunities and celebrate the great event together.
